The Queen's Cups announced in a Facebook post at 7:16 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9. It reads:
"Today we were informed that an employee in our kitchen tested positive for COVID-19. The employee had limited exposure to other staff members and has worn a mask at work at all times when in our shop. The employee has also worked minimal hours this week and was not at work today, 12/9/2020. It is important to note that this employee also does not have direct contact with customers.
With this new information, we have decided to shut down our operation until our staff is tested, receives negative results and is comfortable coming back to work."
"If you have custom orders for pick up this weekend, we will be contacting everyone tomorrow.
This is devastating as a business owner and heartbreaking to say the least. We are so sorry for any inconvenience and hope everyone stays healthy. We will be posting when we are ready to reopen our shop."
Less than 24 hours later, at 6:26 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, Crust Bake Shop announced its positive test.
It posted: "At Crust we are extremely committed to the health and safety of our employees and customers. Health and Safety is a shared commitment and the responsibility of all of us, especially in the workplace environment due to COVID-19.
"Part of this responsibility is keeping you informed.
"We were notified on December 10th that an employee tested positive for COVID-19 at our One West Boylston Street location. Their last shift on the premises was for two hours on December 7th and had limited contact with the rest of our staff before then.
"We are saddened to announce, we have temporarily closed both locations while we complete additional, comprehensive deep-clean and thorough sanitization of both premises. We will be scheduling COVID-19 lab tests for all of our employees, and if everyone on staff is negative, we hope to reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.
"This will allow for additional sanitization protocols to be implemented, further training to be provided to ensure all team members that may have been exposed are able to self-isolate for the required 14 days.
"Your health and safety is our priority.
"On behalf of the team at Crust, we want to thank all of you for your support and understanding.
"Alexis & Nate"
