    Officer offered money for sex with undercover officer posing as a child, authorities say

    AUBURN — An Auburn police officer has been arraigned on two felony charges following his arrest Monday by the Massachusetts State Police in connection with an undercover online sting operation in Western Massachusetts.

    Officer Dominick Boschetto, a Brookfield resident and member of the Auburn Police Department since March 2023, was charged with sexual conduct with a child under 18 for a fee and enticement of a child under 16, according to a statement Tuesday from Auburn Police.

    Police said Boschetto never had physical contact with a minor, but was instead communicating with an undercover officer posing as a child. The investigation and arrest were led by the Massachusetts State Police and the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office.

    Boschetto was immediately placed on administrative leave following his arrest on April 14, and as of Tuesday morning, his license to carry firearms has been suspended. An internal affairs investigation is now underway.

    “No one is more upset than we are with yesterday’s arrest,” the department wrote in a follow-up statement. “We are devastated and feel betrayed. His behavior is inexcusable and will not be tolerated.”

    Chief Todd R. Lemon said in an earlier statement that the allegations are "reprehensible and deeply offensive to every member of the Auburn Police Department," and emphasized the department’s commitment to accountability and public trust.

    Officials reiterated that the department is not involved in the criminal investigation and will not release further details, including a booking photo, as Boschetto was not processed at the Auburn Police Department. All case-related inquiries have been directed to the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office.

    Boschetto's charges stem from a recent online sting operation in Berkshire County. Police said his conduct did not involve any on-duty activity.
